It was a dirty little house – someone really ought to have had a go at cleaning it up. Apart from that, it was just really filthy, with dirt and grease everywhere.

We had booked a static caravan. On arrival, we found that the caravan was dirty. There was mould in the shower, the kitchen looked as though it had been used, the inside of the kitchen cupboards was sticky, and the blinds in the shower and kitchen were so warped that you could see in from outside. In short, the caravan was simply too filthy to stay in. We reported this to reception. The initial response was that they would send someone from the cleaning team round to give it a ‘quick’ clean. A friendly member of staff from the cleaning department arrived. His first reaction was: ‘It’s not that dirty, is it?!’ This is what a caravan that’s ‘basically clean’ looks like in the middle of the season. Until this weekend, I wasn’t familiar with this term, but apparently it means grubby and dirty. According to him, the caravan was simply ‘worn out’, and reception/the rental department were aware of this. He claimed to have reported this several times already. But he said he’d give the caravan a quick clean for us. When I asked how long he thought this would take – an hour or two or three?! – his reply was: ‘No, not at all; three minutes will do.’ Armed with several spray cans full of mould cleaner, and I can’t quite remember what else, he set to work. After three minutes, he was indeed finished… The result: the mould had gone a bit. But now there was a terrible chemical smell… Back to reception again. The lady at reception understood our complaint and immediately set about finding another caravan or bungalow. In the end, we were given a four-person bungalow. Beforehand, she’d checked with the cleaning team to make sure it was clean. This bungalow was spotless! We were glad we’d been rebooked. On arrival, the bungalow appeared clean at first glance, but it was already late and dark. We did, however, notice a foul, sewer-like smell in the shower. We thought, ‘The drain must be dry’. We’ll just top it up with some water, and that’ll sort it. It wasn’t until Saturday morning (when it was light) that we could properly see how clean the bungalow really was. There were thick layers of dust everywhere and the shower still stank. As we’d been rebooked, we decided to clean it ourselves, because after all, we’d already complained about a dirty caravan. We vacuumed, gave the kitchen a proper clean and tackled the smelly drain. But the drain kept stinking, and it seemed as though it was getting worse and worse during our stay. In hindsight, we therefore really regret not reporting this second complaint. The smelly drain really ruined our stay. In short, we’re not satisfied with how the caravans or bungalows are cleaned. If you’re renting something, it should be clean – not just ‘basically clean’.

Perfect – this was our second time at this park. THAT SAYS IT ALL!

The location of the park and the cottage was perfect. The cottage was in need of a lot of maintenance and wasn’t clean on arrival. At the park itself, everything closed early, and you could only just manage to order a last drink an hour before closing time. The café was actually closed all week. There were entertainment activities, but you had to walk to the welcome board or reception if you wanted to know what was on; unfortunately, information was often just passed on to guests rather than actively promoted (tip: information leaflets in the cottages would be better).

It was a really good campsite – I really enjoyed it. The staff were all friendly. The only thing I didn’t like so much was that there wasn’t a small supermarket on site, because if you’d forgotten something, you had to go into the village – and not everyone has a car. But apart from that, it really was a top campsite.
