RCN Vakantiepark De Potten

a lovely, peaceful location with sweeping views and a stunning lake district

The park itself was neat and well-maintained, with some lovely houses and chalets. However, the head of reception was very unfriendly and showed no empathy. We’d booked a boat through them, but when we arrived, we were suddenly told the boat couldn’t be left on the trailer in a car park; instead, we had to moor it in the harbour. We hadn’t anticipated this and didn’t have a chain, padlock or special cover for it. We also had to pay an extra 72. With no guarantee that it would be safe there, and they had no chain or anything else for us. He claimed this had been communicated over the phone, which was absolutely not the case. We were able to show the booking confirmation, which listed our boat without this condition.Nowhere else on their website was this requirement mentioned either. We’ve been coming to this campsite for several years now, and having a boat on a trailer had never been a problem before. He said the rules had been changed as of now, but refused to help us further and told us to sort it out ourselves. He was incredibly rude and very unhelpful. In the end, we had to take the boat home, which took us five hours and completely ruined our enjoyment of our stay here. As a result, one whole day out of the five-day stay was ruined. As we would otherwise have lost our money, we did stay and made the best of it. But it was far from enjoyable. We did send a complaint to head office and have just had a phone call confirming that they agreed with us 100 per cent – that this is unacceptable and should not happen. We will now be getting a refund for that one day.But that head receptionist should be ashamed of herself.

A lovely park. Beautiful surroundings

A fantastic location, and within 10 minutes you’re in Sneek, where there’s plenty to do. The park itself also offers a wide range of activities. We’ll definitely be coming back and would like to explore Friesland by water. The tent caravan was fully equipped and very cosy. Plenty of space for two people.

This was our third (short) stay in three years. It was a shame, though, that given the well-known heatwave, the park didn’t offer any extra facilities to make the bungalow (which wasn’t air-conditioned) bearable (extra fans, perhaps on deposit, mosquito nets, etc.) because with an indoor temperature of 37° and the inability to leave windows open much during the night (huge numbers of mosquitoes!), it wasn’t a stay where we could get any sleep this year. The dishwasher also turned out to be broken, but that’s something that can happen, so it wasn’t a big deal.
