The Plus of the establishment
- Right next to a water park (fee payable)
- Access to the beach
- The Tiki Pool is around the corner
Camping Duinrell is located five minutes walk from the village of Wassenaar in South Holland and only 4000m from the North Sea. It is located inside an amusement park and next to a water park. The water park consists of two parts: one indoor and one outdoor. Both are subject to an additional charge but at a reduced rate for camp residents. Both the outdoor and indoor water park are heated.
You'll have a wonderful time at Duinrell, which has its own amusement park right next to the campsite. Go for a run on the toboggan run or the Splash waterfall, tumble in the Waterspin or spin around the Kikkerachtbaan roller coaster. Little visitors can have fun in the inner courtyard, the locomotive, the monorail and the mini-train. But there are also thrill rides for the youngsters, such as the Space Bowl, the Lazy River, the Mad factory, the ultra-fast Falcon...
In a friendly atmosphere, the campsite bar offers refreshing cocktails to recover from a busy day while the restaurant offers the whole family the opportunity to gather around a festive table. The campsite also has a laundry, a grocery store and an internet access to make your daily life easier.

Wonderful second trip, great to see investment and improvements

This was our second trip as a family of four. We last visited in 2022 and our boys now 11 and 8 loved it so much, we had several requests to come back. We enjoyed it last time, but loved it even more this time. A lot of investment and improvements have been made over the last few years, which is great... to see.
This time we stayed in a 3 bed premium plus duingalow, it was ideal and a significant upgrade on the comfort one we stayed in last time and didn't hugely like. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and it was in a nice location. it was also thoroughly cleaned.
The theme park is great. Minimal queues so you can go on everything several times. It's not a huge theme park, don't expect it to be like a Merlin attraction or Disneyland, but there are some good rides there with something for all ages. We did a couple of half days in the theme park, split with other water park in the afternoon, which worked well. Other times, it was quite nice just to pop up there after day out and spend an hour or so doing three or four rides.
The water park is a huge hit with us. Good to see the upstairs changing rooms have been refurbished, they are much nicer. The slides are great fun and the queues weren't too bad. They are very strict and do enforce that children under 120cm wear arm bands. My son is 120cm and we were stopped a few times to have his height checked when we were there.
We didn't eat on site, but we shopped at Jumbo in town and ate out one night at the pancake house outside the main gates, which was lovely. Wassenaar itselt is quite pleasant with a few shops and cafes. The supermarket on site is fine - a standard campsite shop really, so limited range and pricey, but useful to have there.
We visited Keukenhof on this trip, which is lovely and worth visiting if you are there at the right time of year. It gets very busy so try and visit in the week if you can - and book ahead.
Final comment, check in is very busy at the opening time of 3pm. We queued for 30 mins. It moved along nicely and the girl who checked us in was very friendly, but would factor in a wait if you arriving as check in opens.
We will most likely be back!

A lot of extra expenses, pool and parking, both overpriced

The lodge was fine, not very well equipped. We were 6 people but it apparently slept 8. Enough crockery and cutlery, but lacked enough of everything else. Pool was overpriced, £90 for just 2 hrs. And parking for 2nd car £30 per day. We had numerous power cuts, which were fixed only the 1st two times....
Theme park was ok, for all ages, and parking opened till late but toilet closed at 5

The FACTS.. must read

Ok so this was our first time to a Eurocamp and we booked via them as we were unaware you could book with Duinrell and access better accommodation options!
We booked having seen the reviews on tik tok and thought it would be ideal for our young family.
The accommodation was basic. We stayed in a premium... azure property and were seriously disappointed with the lack of space. The beds almost touched the walls, you have to side step around them. Fine if your used to caravan style holidays, we are not. The baby’s travel cot had to be set up in the kitchen which was chilly overnight. Definitely nothing premium.
Linen!! I’ve added a screen shot from the eurocamp website. It’s not included at this site and.. there are no spares on site to hire! Again, not familiar with properties that do not include linen, we were shocked by this. They hire in what is pre ordered by customers to hire.. take your own or pre order!
Swimming, yes it’s an impressive pool with some real thrill flumes. A voucher with a QR code is provide upon arrival, it allows you to book a 2 hour slot at 15 euros each p/p.
You need to take your own towels.
Lockers are free
ID.. small ID cards are given in the arrival pack, there is space for a passport photo. Don’t bother!
Upon check-in they tell you you must attach a photo as security will check as will the swimming reception. They said there is a photo machine for those who have not brought photos..
1) once booked at the pool you self check in via a barrier. No one checks ID
2) we went out twice, once on foot and in cars. We showed our cards- no photos and no one challenged us.
Theme Park. It’s good, small with 3-4 thrill rides and very close together. We went in as it opened and did all the rides within an hour. Great but doesn’t fill the whole day!
There are amusements but these obviously cost.
Small Town of Wassensar is a few minutes walk and is quite picturesque with restaurants, cafes, shops and a supermarket - Jumbo. Helpful if like us you need linen and towels!
We took a train from a nearby station to Amsterdam and spent the afternoon there. Much easier than driving and definitely less stress!
It was an ok 4 days. For all the additional expense getting there and add-ons, we should have booked centreparcs in the Uk!

Family holiday in 2 x duingalows over Easter weekend

Duingalows were lovely - we booked 2 x premium ones. Be aware the 5 person one doesn't have a lounge area as such, just a circular dining booth. Fortunately the neighbouring 8 person one we booked had a lovely lounge area that was sufficient for cool evenings. Outdoor space was great when it was sunny... in the day. Very clean. The theme park was a great thing to have on site although we have been previously so knew what to expect.
Positives -
Duingalows were great
Short queues and no issue with ride closures etc, I was worried as it was Easter weekend but no issue. Only thing we did notice was that as soon as the bank holiday was over (Tuesday after Easter) the school groups returned!
The outdoor gym equipment is impressive.
The bowling in the bar is fun.
Pizza takeaway is good
Food in La Place is surprisingly good
Great location close to Wassenaar, beach etc.
Bike hire was easy.
Negatives -
We saw a lot of litter around the park. I don't recall this from last time but it makes it feel a bit untidy.
The floor in the tikibad is not kept clean enough, at all.
The restaurants and takeaways close too early and are too short staffed. One evening the park was open until 9 but all the food places were closed in the park way before 9 so you had to leave the park and go to the Plaza while the park was open or everything would be closed! The wait for fries at the snack takeaway was 20 minutes after ordering! And the pizza place repeatedly stopped taking orders to clear the back log as there were only 2 young staff taking orders, preparing, cooking and packing pizzas - this led to several confrontations with people who just wanted to order a pizza.
A great holiday with lots to do for kids of all ages.

I'd give it a four star but there's a couple of points which need to be addressed.....

We stayed here for the first time this April. I've wanted to stay here for a long time with my family.
First impressions. Long queue at check in, but that was expected as we arrived at around 3pm. The lady who checked us in was friendly and explained everything to us. All was very straightforward.... Drove to our accommodation, a little tricky to find our car park space but not a problem - all spaces are numbered.
On first glance accommodation was new and tidy. We stayed in a Premium Plus Duingalow for 6 persons, with air conditionining & sunshower. We paid for bedding so just needed to put that on, again, not a problem (make sure to check if you have paid for bedding, or for towels - we brought our own towels and pool towels).
However, when putting the bedding on my children found dirty socks, underwear, jewellery and rings from the previous occupants in the bunk beds - so obviously the cleaners had not been as thorough as they should have been. Whilst slightly off putting, I didn't want to go back to reception and the busy queues.
The location of our duingalow was perfect for the park, for the shops and all amenities. Apart from random children running in front of the accommodation of an evening (each duingalow has a sort of private bit of space in front of it with chairs and loungers), it was private and not overlooked from the main road - I would imagine if you were in the front row of duingalows this could be an issue, as the accomodation doesn't have any privacy apart from heavy curtains which you don't want to pull during the day.
The park itself wasn't too busy at the time of visit, queueing was minimal and my children loved the freedom of being able to go into the park by themselves (they were older and not under any of the height restrictions). Big bonus is being able to go back to your accommodation to have a cuppa and refresh and then head back to the park. I can imagine in peak season it would be very very busy.
The onsite supermarket was fine for little bits and bobs, a little bit more pricey than supermarkets but that's to be expected. Well stocked, however long queues at times. There is a fresh bakery there and I'd often see people getting their croissants etc first thing in the morning :)
The local town of Wassennaar has several supermarkets, a Jumbo and a Aldi, and another which name escapes me. Jumbo is reasonably priced and saved us a fortune from eating out as we cooked in the accommodation.
In the accommodation; we had an electric hob and a microwave oven - it's a bit tricky to work out how to cook using that and we had to look up online - so plan your meals wisely! On the last day I found a manual tucked away in one of the drawers.
In terms of equipment, we had a coffee machine, a nespresso, toaster, kettle , all the major things you need. We did get a welcome pack of a very small container of washing up liquid, 3 x dishwasher tablets, a sponge, a tea towel, some bin bags and matches.
You'll need to get more washing up liquid, bring another tea towel and dishwasher tablets (I brought these from home as we drove).
The size of the duingalow - although being marketed for 6 people, we already decided we'd need bigger accommodation if we came again - as for three older children, we needed an extra toilet and more room for us all. The bunk bed room is very small and the twin room does not have a wardrobe. The main bedroom is small and hard to get changed in!
Tiki Pool - booking direct with Duinrell gives you free entry to the Tiki Pool. We had 2 passes for the whole family and you can book a day in advance using the special code they give you. Book early to get the slot you want. We went in the evening, but if we did again I'd try the morning as it would probably be quieter.
The Tiki Pool can be very loud and I noticed they're very strict on small children using the pool and having arm bands on (which is a good thing) but if you don't know about this, it can be frustrating - even if your child can swim they won't let them go in the pool (check in advance the age - I think its about 7).
Take flip flops for the poolside. It's like any other pool with hair etc :(
It can be extremely chaotic, busy and noisy (worth noting if you have a child who struggles with noise) - the first time we got lockers upstairs which were newer and they had a really easy system to get a locker (no coins needed, you just picked a code and they allocated you a locker on the screen - no extra charge). The second time we had to use the downstairs changing room which was really really cramped, really busy, and it used the old fashioned key and bracelet system. It was also full of incredibly obnoxious, loud, shouting students who were not just loud, they were continually shouting and screaming. Horrible.
Worth mentioning that the staff cleaning the locker rooms were helpful and constantly tidying them up. Swimming pool staff are pretty hot on observing things - which is good, considering the amount of young people unaccompanied who can be a little bit......silly. They were friendly when we had to ask a couple of questions.
Bike hire - we didn't hire a bike but hired the go karts. My kids loved them. Worth doing. Seeing them riding around the park (not the theme park) and the freedom was lovely.
Staff - a bit of a mixed bag. Some staff really friendly, however one receptionist we encountered was very rude; didn't even acknowledge us. I do wonder what kind of service we would have received had we encountered a problem. I hate to say it, but I feel there could be a bit of an issue.
Language - we tried to pick up a few words in Dutch, and many people speak excellent English (although we wanted to try a few basics in Dutch if we could). Food shopping was a little bit tricky at times but google translate is wonderful and also, this was part of the fun.
Location - the town of Wassennaar is beautiful and within walking distance. We didn't get to visit the beach but it looked beautiful. Amsterdam is about a 45 minute drive away (don't park in the city, park at one of the park and rides).
All in all though, an action packed, busy few days. We absolutely loved that we could use the theme park as much as we wanted and felt we could have stayed for longer.
The only things I might suggest to the park would be:-
Customer service - there's a few areas that need to be addressed - particularly with some on reception
Cleanliness - accommodations should be checked and cleaned thoroughly - as well as the previous occupants dirty laundry, I did notice that the corners and edges were a bit dirty and dusty.
